About Me

Who is Ekwochi Njeze as a game designer?

As a dedicated game designer with a focus on level design in the third-person perspective, I hold a degree in Computer Game Design from George Mason University, which I earned in May 2021. I am skilled in using industry-standard tools such as Unreal Engine 4 and Unity 3D, and I have collaborated with diverse teams to develop a variety of games, ranging from third-person action titles to 2D side-scrollers. My expertise lies in designing immersive levels from the ground up, along with scripting sequences to enhance gameplay.

I believe that effective level design not only engages players but also immerses them in the narrative journey of the characters they control. It serves as a powerful narrative tool that expresses character motivations, defines player roles, and reinforces the overall theme of the game. Inspired by games like “Uncharted,” “The Last of Us,” “God of War,” “Red Dead Redemption,” and “Batman: Arkham City,” I strive to create environments that offer players the freedom to explore and interact in ways that suit their play styles. I view level design as a vital discipline that harmonizes narrative and gameplay mechanics, enhancing the overall player experience.

Who is Ekwochi Njeze the human?

As a Nigerian-American born and raised in Denville, New Jersey, my passion for video games has been deeply influenced by my experiences with my four brothers. Playing games together not only strengthened our bond but also revealed to me the profound impact of this art form. Whether we were sitting on the floor passing the controller during single-player adventures like “Jak and Daxter” and “Crash Bandicoot: Twinsanity,” or enjoying the competitive fun of multiplayer titles like “Super Smash Bros.” and “Mario Party,” I recognized how gaming brings people together.

My two older brothers, Ugo and Obum, taught me the joy of gaming, while my younger brothers, Jideofor and Obi, helped me refine my skills and master game mechanics, whether in shooters or fighting games. These lessons and the memorable moments we shared have significantly shaped my journey as a game designer and continue to inspire my work in creating interactive experiences.

Outside of Games

I am a former Division 1 track athlete at George Mason University and the first athlete in the Computer Game Design program at the university. My love for sports extends to watching the NFL and NBA, where I proudly support the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Knicks. In my spare time, I enjoy watching anime— with “Naruto” as my favorite— and reading comics and manga.

I travel extensively, embracing the opportunity to learn about different cultures and take in the beautiful locales, vistas, and landscapes that the world has to offer. I also prioritize fitness through workouts and practicing Muay Thai, which help keep my mind sharp and focused. These hobbies not only provide relaxation but also inspire me to improve as a game designer and motivate me to tackle any challenges that come my way.
